Adoption

Thank you for considering adopting a dog

About Adoption

If you’ve been thinking about bringing a fluffy friend into your family, it’s essential to consider whether dog adoption suits you.

The RSPCA receive over 18,000 dogs (2022-2023) to their adoption and rescue centres annually in Australia. So bringing home a rescue dog or even just fostering one is a fantastic opportunity to give a dog the second chance they deserve. It comes with challenges as well as joy of course, so thank you for considering adopting a dog.

To welcome a new furry friend into your life, we invite you to learn about our adoption process and fill out the application form to express your interest in adopting one of our rescue dogs.

Our website is kept up to date with all our available dogs, therefore if there are none currently available or none that suit your family then please remember to check Our WebsiteFacebook or Instagram pages for ongoing updates. (Instagram launching soon)

Our Adoption Process

If you come across an animal on our website that captures your interest for adoption, we encourage you to review the details provided below to acquaint yourself with our adoption procedure. Once you have familiarised yourself with the process, you may proceed to complete our online adoption application.

We operate on a careful selection process rather than a “first come, first served” basis when determining the most suitable new home. We advise you to provide as much information as you can on your application form.

To ensure that your application is eligible for consideration, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Own your residence or have approval for pet ownership from your landlord/real estate agent  (further details can be found in the FAQ section).
  • Possess approval from your local council for the intended number of pets you plan to keep. Click here for more information on animal registration.
  • Be able to provide references (if required) as to your suitability as a pet owner.

As part of our adoption process, a home visit to you and your family is conducted, with preference given to applicants residing on the Fraser Coast, QLD.

Utilising our extensive experience, we carefully match animals with families based on factors such as lifestyle, household members, pet ownership philosophy, and the pet’s personality.

Due to the volume of applications received and our limited resources, we only reach out to shortlisted candidates. While we aim to contact shortlisted applicants within 7-10 days, please understand that occasional delays may occur.

If your application is shortlisted, we’ll engage in a detailed conversation and schedule a home visit. During this visit, we’ll assess your yard to ensure it’s suitable for the animal you’re interested in, and we’ll request a verbal reference from your veterinarian (if required).

Adopting a dog from Adopt A Dog Fraser Coast requires careful consideration as we aim to ensure the animal finds a lifelong home. The welfare of the animal remains our utmost priority.
